Accessibility at Barnes Brinkcraft
We want as many people as possible to enjoy the Norfolk Broads, whether that’s a week afloat, a relaxed short break, a day boat adventure or a riverside stay.
Our team is always happy to talk through your needs before you book. Every boat and holiday property is different, so the best thing to do is give us a call and we can chat through access, steps, cabin layouts, showers, mooring, parking and anything else that might make your holiday easier.
Accessibility on Our Holiday Boats
Our cruisers are traditional self-drive Broads boats, so guests usually need to be able to step on and off the boat, move around decks safely, manage cabin doorways and use steps inside or outside the boat.
Some boats are easier to move around than others, and larger boats may offer more space, but our hire cruisers are not wheelchair-accessible or step-free. Check out our page about our easier access boats. You can also filter the search results for boats by selecting “Best for… Very few Steps” to see a selection of boats that may be suitable.
Accessibility in Our Holiday Cottages
Our riverside holiday cottages are in a beautiful spot beside the River Bure, with lovely views and easy access to the village of Hoveton.
However, all of our holiday cottages have an upside-down layout, with the main living accommodation upstairs to make the most of the river views. This means guests need to be able to manage stairs during their stay.
Day Boat Accessibility
Our day boats can be a good option for guests who want to enjoy the Broads without staying overnight. Access still involves stepping on and off the boat, but some options may be more suitable depending on your needs, group size and confidence around water.
Need Wheelchair-Accessible Boating?
For visitors who need wheelchair-accessible boating or holiday accommodation on the Norfolk Broads, we recommend contacting the Nancy Oldfield Trust. They are a local charity offering accessible boating and accommodation, including supported trips on the water for people with disabilities or additional access needs.
We’ll always do our best to help you find the right option, even if that means pointing you towards someone better suited to your needs. The Broads should be enjoyed by as many people as possible, and we’re very happy to help you work out what’s realistic, safe and enjoyable.
Access needs vary from guest to guest, and boats are not quite like hotels. There can be steps, narrow spaces, changes in level and movement underfoot, especially when stepping on or off.
That’s why we’re very happy to chat things through before you book. Tell us what you need, what you’re unsure about, and what would make the holiday easier. We’ll do our best to guide you towards the most suitable option.
We won’t promise that every boat will suit every guest, because they won’t. But we will give clear, honest advice and help you find the most suitable option where we can.
