Norfolk Broads Fishing Holidays & Boats Perfect for Anglers
Looking for a proper Norfolk Broads fishing holiday? You’ve found your spot.
The Broads are one of the UK’s best coarse fishing destinations, packed with Pike, Perch, Bream, Roach, Tench and more — all waiting in peaceful, reed-lined waterways.
A holiday boat gives you something most fishing breaks can’t: complete freedom. No set pegs, no crowds, no rushing to claim a swim. Just cruise until it feels right, moor up, and drop a line.
Wake up to mist on the water, stick the kettle on and fish straight from the deck; even in your PJs if you fancy! That’s the magic of it.
We’ve been helping anglers enjoy the Norfolk Broads for decades and we’ve handpicked a range of boats that are particularly well suited to fishing. Browse and book our fishing-friendly boats below, or get in touch and we’ll help you plan your perfect break.
Why the Norfolk Broads is Perfect for Fishing
If you love the gentle splash of a cast line and the quiet anticipation of a bite, the Broads is your kind of place.
This is a landscape built for fishing. A unique network of rivers and Broads surrounded by reed beds, big skies and wildlife. You can spend a day exploring wide open stretches of water, or tuck yourself away in a quiet backwater that feels completely untouched.
What really sets the Broads apart is the variety. One day you might be targeting a famous Broads Pike, the next you’re float fishing for Roach or waiting patiently for Tench as the sun comes up.
And even when the fish are playing hard to get (they do like to keep us guessing), it’s still a pretty good place to be.
Fish You Can Catch on the Norfolk Broads
The Broads offer some of the best coarse fishing in the UK, with a wide variety of species across the waterways.
You’re likely to come across:
- Pike – the Broads’ most famous predator
- Perch – often found near moorings and structures
- Bream – common in deeper river stretches
- Roach and Rudd – ideal for float fishing
- Tench – a favourite summer catch
- Carp – present in certain Broads and connected waters
With this much variety, no two days ever feel quite the same.
Fishing From Your Holiday Boat
This is where a Broads fishing holiday really comes into its own.
Instead of being tied to one spot, you can move at your own pace, following the weather, the water or just a hunch. If it looks good, stop and fish. Simple as that.
Cruise through quiet stretches, moor up along a reed-lined bank, and settle in. No traffic, no noise. Just you, the water and hopefully a few bites.
Start the day with a cup of tea on deck as the mist lifts. Try a new stretch in the afternoon. Then moor somewhere peaceful for an evening session or dinner in a riverside pub.
It’s fishing, but on your terms.

Never driven a boat before? Don’t worry — we’ll show you everything you need to know before you set off.
Prefer to Fish From Shore?
If you’d rather keep your feet on dry land — or you’re travelling with someone who prefers it — our waterside holiday cottages are a great alternative.
Many include:
- Private moorings
- Direct riverside access
- Complimentary day boats outside peak dates
That means you can fish from the garden, head out on the water when it suits you, or just enjoy the view with a cup of tea in hand.
Responsible Pike Fishing
Just a quick note from us.
Pike are incredible fish, but they do need careful handling — especially in warmer weather and after spawning. Strong tackle, proper unhooking and a bit of patience go a long way.
For that reason, many anglers choose to avoid targeting Pike during the hottest part of summer, helping protect the fish and keep Broads fishing in great shape for years to come.
Fishing Licences & Rules
The important (but fairly painless) bit:
- Coarse fishing season: 16 June – 14 March
- Environment Agency rod licence required
Prices:
- 1 day – £7.50
- 8 days – £14.70
- 12 months – £36.80
Children:
- Under 13 – no licence needed
- Ages 13–16 – free junior licence (still required)
A licence covers most areas, but some stretches are privately managed by angling clubs and may require a small day permit.
Where do I get fishing rod licences from?
All licences can be obtained from a post office or online at the environment agency website.
Please be aware that having a fishing licence does not mean you can fish anywhere on the Norfolk Broads, some locations are privately owned or managed by angling clubs that do offer day tickets for a small fee.
Do we need to bring our own fishing tackle?
Yes, you can either bring them with you or purchase them from one of the local fishing tackle shops nearby.
Angling Direct Fishing (just 2 minutes from our boatyard)
It’s always worth asking the tackle shop for advice on appropriate bait and techniques, as well as the best places to catch fish!
