Lock-Free Boating Holidays | Norfolk Broads

Make your way to Norfolk and enjoy boating on 125 miles of lock-free river

18 May 2021

There are some major upsides to taking a lock-free boating holiday in Norfolk. The rivers are wider and can cope with larger boats. which makes for an altogether more comfortable holiday.  See some of our best Norfolk Broads holiday boats here

Those wider rivers also make navigation and mooring much easier.  No need to look for a turning circle or reverse for miles. See something you would like to see more of?  Just turn your boat around for a better look.    Catch a cracking photo of the heron fishing, or capture an image of the wherry yachts gliding by.

Wildlife

The Broads National Park is primarily in Norfolk. The best way to get up close to its incredible wildlife is by getting on the water.

Did you know that the Broads National park covers less than 1% of the UK’s land area? Yet it’s home to more than a quarter of its rarest wildlife. That’s more than any other National Park in the country

Enjoy Wild Mooring on Lock-Free Boating Holidays | Norfolk Broads

You don’t have to moor up outside one of Norfolk’s famed pubs (although it does have its plus side!) You can just drop a mud weight (an anchor) in one of the Broads (lake). Imagine yourself as the sun sets, sitting with the boat canopy open. Watching the stars appear and listening to the birds as they take themselves to bed. You’ll occasionally hear something move in the water. Is it an otter, a fish jumping or the wind blowing through the reed bed?

It’s a beautiful way to spend the evening. Choose one of the boats with a superior battery management system. You’ll have all you need onboard without needing to start your engine.

Top tip – make sure the wind is due to remain calm, you don’t want to get blown into the reedbed!
