A pootle down the river in your Norfolk Broads day boat, lunch, a leg stretch and a pootle back, what could be better?
Half Day Hire – Horning & the Upper Bure
Perfect for:
Families, friends, first-time boaters, relaxed lunches, light fishing
This half-day cruise gives you a proper taste of the Broads without feeling rushed. It’s scenic, easy to navigate and packed with good stopping points — ideal if you’ve only got a few hours but still want to feel like you’ve been somewhere.
Leave the Boatyard & Settle In
After collecting your day boat, turn left onto the main river and enjoy a gentle cruise past riverside houses — a great stretch for building confidence at the helm.
From here, you can choose to:
- Drift into Wroxham Broad or Salhouse Broad for open water and sailing views
- Or continue along the river towards Horning
Lunch & a Stroll in Horning
Horning is the perfect turning point for a half-day hire.
Moor up at one of the village’s excellent riverside pubs:
- The Ferry Inn
- The New Inn
- The Swan Inn
All have flat, easy moorings, and there’s usually someone around to lend a hand if needed. Enjoy lunch, a drink and a bit of people-watching before heading back.
Before you leave, pop into Tavern Tasty, Horning’s much-loved butcher and deli, packed with local Norfolk produce and treats.
Cruise Back to Wroxham
After lunch, retrace your route back to the boatyard, taking your time and soaking up the scenery.
⏱ Total time: Ideal for a 3–4 hour hire, with time to stop, eat and relax.
