Beautiful Norfolk has a holiday for every age and taste

We may be a bit biased by we honestly think that Norfolk has more to offer than any other area in the UK.
And with the thaw just setting in and icicles dripping from rooftops now is the time to dream of summer holidays, whether slowly meandering from pub to pub on the Broads or visiting Norwich’s Norman castle or Cathedral or simply taking advantage of the miles of footpaths across fields of barley or wheat from village to village.
There are also enormous sandy beaches – if you haven’t spent a day on the sands at Holkham or Wells then you haven’t seen how beautiful an unspoiled a beach can be.
There are also the small coastal villages of Sheringham and Cromer, which grew up in the Victorian days when the railways arrived and became the summer holiday retreats of well-to-do Londoners.
Nowadays they are famous for their crabs and many small shops sell them fresh boiled, delicious and a bargain.
You can often see the boats coming back to the beaches with baskets of crabs and sometimes you can buy them directly from, the fishermen.
And why not try ‘the poor man’s asparagus’ samphire, picked from the sandy estuaries around Blakeney, another local delicacy.
And while we have your taste buds salivating, there are mussel beds at Blakeney and neighbouring Morston. Fresh mussels are also readily available from village shops near the coast.
And what other county can boast the huge Norfolk skies, ever changing, sometimes purple to black as rain threatens, at other times the palest pink down to fiery red as the summer sun sets over fields and seas and rivers.
We may be biased, but you’d be amazed at how much our county has to offer, whether it be the bustle of the city or Great Yarmouth or the tranquillity of hamlets where people still have time to stop and chat.
Not for nothing are we looked on as a Royal county with the Queen’s private house at Sandringham set in acres of parkland some of which is open to the public.
And if you like visiting the best of British stately homes the county has some wonderful buildings, from the better known Blickling Hall, home of Anne Boleyn, to the lesser known histotic Felbrigg Hall.
We think Norfolk has everything. Even locals find hidden corners where time seems to have stood still for centuries.
And we live here!

Christmas Shopping Weekends

Is the thought of Christmas shopping sending you into a panic?  The stress of finding that perfect present along with all the pushing and shoving and horn blowing that goes with city centre shopping, it’s not a great start to the Festive season is it?

This year why not combine your Christmas shopping with a short break to the Norfolk Broads.  Our two bedroomed properties Rivers Edge and River View, both have en-suite bathrooms making them perfect for families or for two couples to share, and at just £376 for short break it makes an affordable treat just before Christmas.

Roys of Wroxham said to be the ‘largest village store in the world’ has everything you could need from present ideas, decorations, festive food and lots, lots more.  What’s more it is just a five minute walk from Barnes Brinkcraft so no need to queue for a car parking space either.

If you do want to go into Norwich city centre, you can take the train from Wroxham station.  Norwich is listed as one of the Top 10 places to shop in the UK.  Shopping in Norwich is a unique experience with high street stores, designer brands, independent shops and quirky goods are all on offer.  Outside of London’s Oxford Street, Norwich is the only place in the UK to have 4 national department stores as well as a local independent department store, Jarrold, within its city centre.

There is still lots going on in Wroxham out of the main holiday season, so while those who want to can go shopping, there’s the option for fishing from outside your door, the local pubs and restaurants are still open and the Bure Valley Railway offers their ‘Santa Special‘ trips from the 24th November until the 24th of December, so a chance for the little ones to see Santa with their wish lists.

A little further afield the Thursford Christmas Spectacular is on from the 9th of November until the 23rd of December, “the biggest and most exciting Christmas show of all time in Britain.”  Booking is essential, see website for details.

You can book your accommodation on-line or by phone on 01603 782625 - we’d be happy to help.  Don’t forget when booking accommodation you will also get the use of a Day Boat free of charge for the duration of your stay!

To get you into the Christmas spirit we will give you a bottle of Mulled Wine or Bubbly to enjoy during stay – please state which you would prefer when making you reservation.

Christmas shopping and fishing all on your doorstep

Probably the last thing you want to think about at the moment is Christmas, but it is only ten weeks away.

Why not take a short break or Autumn holiday in one of our waterside holiday homes, and do your Christmas shopping at the same time.

Roys of Wroxham is a nationally renowned store on two sites right next to Wroxham’s famous bridge and within a 5 minutes walk of our holiday homes.  Thought to be the largest village store in the world you should be able to get everything you need in one place without having to play ‘elbow rugby’ in the large department stores in the city or fighting for parking spaces in the run up to Christmas.  Altogether a much more leisurely affair and you can even leave the gentlemen behind at the Lodge to fish – everyones happy!

Shoals of fish are currently leaving the faster flowing rivers for the yacht basins – closely followed by the predator Pike.

If you do want to go into Norwich, there are all the main department stores and two large shopping malls, you can simply hop on the train a short walk away from your holiday home.  The city centre is less than a ten minute bus ride away.

Daisy Broad Lodges make the perfect setting for a Christmas or New Year break

If you are thinking of doing something different this year for Christmas or New Year, now is the best time to book your winter break on the Broads as we are offering a MASSIVE 30% discount on our brochure prices*.

Daisy Broad is a small and fairly unknown broad right in the middle of Wroxham, yet peaceful and packed with atmosphere.  Indeed, this is one of the best fishing areas in the winter as small fish seek refuge from the colder waters of the main river and the bigger predators follow them.

Daisy Broad waterside lodge

Great place for Christmas: Daisy Broad waterside lodge

The Broads take on a near ghostly atmosphere in winter with Coot calling from the fringes and big pike breaking the surface searching for the evening meal.

All of our lodges are named after birds you will almost certainly see while staying here. Coot, Grebe and Heron are tucked away to one side of the Broad whilst Mallard overlooks the river Bure and has a lawned garden ideal for fishing for that monster pike.

The main living areas are on the first floor giving excellent views over the water and are perfect for family breaks. All lodges can sleep eight to ten people.

Christmas & New Year is magical on the Norfolk Broads - and you are assured of a warm welcome from the team at Barnes Brinkcraft

All self catering properties are fully equipped, there is ample parking and the lodges are centrally heated – and that is included in the price.

See our main web pages for more details on all our holidays, but if you would like to talk to a member of our team phone, Margaret on 01603 782625 who will be happy to help.

* Please note that discounts have been applied to our on-line rates to assist with the booking procedure.
